$6.5 MILLION SETTLEMENT REACHED: OWENSBY SR. SAYS, "HE FEARED ANOTHER RIOT." After 5 1/2 years and alot of pain, suffering, cover-up & lies, The Owensby family has agreed to accept of settlement from the City of Cincinnati for the brutal vicious murder of their son Gulf War veteran Roger Owensby Jr. The following is a small excerpt from the devil's online newspaper The Cincinnati Enquirer: CITY, OWENSBY FAMILY SETTLE $6.5 MILLION PAYMENT HALTS POLICE-CUSTODY DEATH CASE By DAN HORN AND EILEEN-- ENQUIRER STAFF WRITERS The city of Cincinnati agreed Friday to a $6.5 million settlement with the family of Roger Owensby Jr., the Cincinnati man who died in police custody nearly six years ago. The settlement - believed to be the largest of its kind in Cincinnati history - resolve one of the best-known and most contentious civil rights claims against the city's Police Department. Owensby's death by asphyxiation while in police custody Nov. 7, 2000, energized community activists who had complained for years about the treatment of African-Americans by Cincinnati police officers. Tensions erupted five months later, in April 2001, when a police shooting of an unarmed black suspects sparked days of unrest and rioting. Mayor Mark Mallory said he hoped the settlement Friday would help improve police-community relations and would allow Owensby's family and the rest of the city to begin moving forward. He noted that, without the settlement, the case would have gone to trial in U.S. District Court the first week of April - the fifth anniversary of the riots. "The community really needs to heal and this would allow us the closure necessary to heal," Mallory said. "The family has been through a lot, and I got the clear indiction they didn't want to put the community through a tough trial." Owensby's family, Roger Owensby Sr., agreed. "I had to think about the living," Owensby Sr., said. That is the only reason we didn't continue with this. I said, 'OK, if we can come to some type of agreement, I'll settle this.'" Owensby, 56, said his son would have turned 35 on March 27. Owensby Jr's daughter, Myiesha, is 14. "This has been a really hard fight for the whole family," he said. Owensby said he feared a public trial could spark another riot. "We were not running from justice, I just wanted to maintain peace," he said. Under the terms of the settlement, the Owensby family would receive $4 million and their team of lawyers $2.5 million. The lawyers' fees are based on a formula establishment by the U.S. Supreme Court for civil rights cases. The deal still requires the approval of City Council, but Mallory said he has spoken to several council members and does not expect much opposition. He said the city would issue bonds to pay the $6.5 million. Owensby's father said the family plans to leave the area this year, but would like to set up a scholarship fund for disadvantaged children in his sons name once the settlement is final. --End of Excerpt-- A FEW THOUGHTS FROM THE BLACK FIST It's a shame The Owensby family will be leaving the area this year but I can understand, with all the heartache and suffering they've been through. I am under the understanding that the Mayor is to also issue a public apology in writing to the Owensby family. Now here is where we have a problem... The mayor that should be issuing the public apology in writing is ex-mayor Charles "Charlie" John Luken! He's the rat bastard that this vicious brutal murder took place under. Under Charlie Luken's watch not Mark Mallorys'! Now will Charlie Luken be the one signing that "apology", ASAP? Hell no he won't!!! Since it was he who fought tooth & nail to assist in the police cover-ups and the delay of justice coming to this long suffering family. Charlie Luken is an alcoholic failure. The Black Fist is one of many in this city who could not be more pleased to see the back of his racist rotten ass as he left the office of Mayor & City of Cincinnati. Hopefully it is for good. The Black Fist, The Black Panther Nation, and The Coalition For a Just Cincinnati was one of many activism groups that fight long & hard on behalf of the Owensby family and as spokeperson for The Black Fist, we'd like to wish The Owensby family the best of luck, peace & blessings in hoping they will one day find the comfort and happiness they so richly deserve. I will reserve at this time the right to not express how The Black Fist feels about them settling the case and not exposing the beast that viciously murdered their son and the cover-up(s) by the city and county to ensure the murdering pigs spent not one day in jail! And we will also reserve the right to not express at this time what we truly feel about another potential riot in the city of Cincinnati due to Police Brutality heaped upon us by an organization of murdering savages for satan, The CPD! The Black Fist will respect the wishes of the Owensby family and allow for this settlement to be what it is. "A settlement." The Owensby family "settled" this case, they will now move on. The Black Fist will NEVER move on or away from fighting day and night against the evils of Police Brutality!!! We are here and we will continue to expose the wickedness & viciousness of Police Brutality whenever and wherever it rears its ugly murdering head!!! THAT IS A SOLEMN PROMISE!!! BLACK FIST, BLACK POWER, BLACK NATION!!! |
