I want to publish what was written in The Cincinnati Post about Cincinnati City Councilman Cecil Thomas (R) and his latest greatest idea coming out of his Law & Public Safety Committee. This is the first of two be in 2 parts each with commentary regarding this warmed over from the lame-brained David Pepper, ex-Law & Public Safety Committee Chairman era. Here goes nothing..... The Cincinnati Post Post Staff Reporter Tony Cook: Thomas sees stiffer penalties for pot offenses good for city Cincinnati City Councilman Cecil Thomas plans to propose tougher penalties for marijuana possession - a move that could re-ignite a debate that stalled a similiar proposal last summer. Thomas, chairman of Council's Law and Public Safety Committee, said stiffening the punishment would give police more tools to combat the city's drug problem and bring Cincinnati's code in line with neighboring Indiana and Kentucky, where penalties are much more stringent. His proposed municipal code change would make marijuana possession a fourth-degree misdemeanor, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and a $250 fine. Right now possession of less than a 100 grams of marijuana is a minor misdemeanor under state law, meaning officers can write only a $100 citation. In Kentucky, possessing marijuana carries a maximum sentence of at least a year in jail and a $500 fine, said Jim Liles, executive director of the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force. "I know that drug dealers are thoughtful about different things," Liles said. "I know they are familiar with some aspects of the law." Thomas said a drug enforcement officer in Over-The-Rhine recently cited a woman from Kentucky for possession and asked her why she came to Cincinnati for drugs. She said, "Are you crazy? You go to jail over there." The Post story ends here. All I will say for now is, "Is Cecil Losing It Again?" What makes Cecil think this is gonna work? Shouldn't he be more concerned with the skyrocketing out of control murder rate in this city? Maybe even the crack cocaine and meth that is flowing through these streets? All these devilish guns in the hands of our youth, shouldn't he be focusing on that maybe? But nnnooooo, people smoking some wood puts this city in a state of emergency, hear him talk about it! I've said it before and I'll say it again Cecil Thomas is doing his best to appease and placate the west side of town and putting stupid asinine motions like this one on the floor of council shows just how out of touch he is with what's really going on when it pertains to crime on these streets. I mean what do we have here folks a Dumb David Pepper Redux? This shit will never work with the overcrowding of the justice center and people making claims they got let out early cause they didn't have a bed to sleep in. Now this ex-cop turned councilman proposes to thow folks in the joint for a joint. I told you this in the last blog entry when I had to write about your foolishness Cecil, well it likes I'm force to tell you again: "Cecil Thomas get it together baby and get it together fast!" "Get your dag-gone head together man and use that office and that committee to really fight some crime and stop making silly ass proposals that you know won't make a damn bit of different!"
