"OUR HISTORY WAS DESTROYED BY SLAVERY"

Black Power Brothers & Sisters! The date is March 17th. The year is 1963. Part II of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz Bro. Minister Malcolm X's debate on the Chicago television show "City Desk". In this vintage film piece you will see Bro. Malcolm being grilled about his family name and the changing of his name. Re-printed here [in the text below] is an important explaination about the naming of the so-called "American Negroe" from Bro. Minister X to one of the panelist in question. The rest upon viewing the video in its entirety is completely self-explainatory and very powerful in deed. "My father didn't know his name. My father got his name from his grandfather and his grandfather got it from his grandfather who got it from the slavemaster. The real name of our people were destroyed by slavery. The last name of my forefathers was taken from them when they were brought to America and made slaves, and then the name of the slavemaster was given which we refuse, we reject that name today. I never acknowledge it whatsoever." - MALCOLM X

I disagree with a great majority of what you write here but that clip was excellent. What a wise man he was and a great tragedy that he was assassinated. Today is the history of tomorrow, we can all learn a great deal from this man.

It's not my place to say, as I'm sure you will remind me, but leave the Joy stuff off the blog and and stick with this message- incredibly powerful.

side note: I never noticed that Denzel Washington nailed his cadence and speech perfectly.
